Badge Making

I'm doing some research on how to make pin badges, in this case, pronoun badges. I thought they'd be really cheap and I could order a batch online, but the going price is more than I expected and I'm not prepared to support companies underpaying their workers for what is clearly a more expensive process than I envisioned. I was surprised how hard it was to find information online for making your own badges without a button badge machine, so I will be collecting knowledge here for reference.

Bottle Top Badges

This is one of the methods that requires the least materials. I'm starting the list here because although I've made them in the past, these badges do not suit my current needs.

Ingredients:

First, use the nail to make two small holes in either side of the bottle top. This is where the safety pins will be threaded through later to pin the badge to your clothes, so make sure the holes are wide enough for the safety pins you have.

Next, create a circular paper template for your design. You can use whichever side of the bottle top you prefer. If you are using the inside, make sure the template is small enough to sit flat against the inside of the bottle top. If you are using the outside, make sure the paper doesn't overhang the edge.

Trace your template onto the card, and draw your design or text using the waterproof pen before cutting it out. Glue your design to the bottle top.

(Optional waterproofing) Top coat with diamond glaze. If you get air bubbles in the glaze it's very hard to get rid of, so I'd recommend going slow and trying on a piece of scrap paper first to get used to it.

Add safety pins, and you're done!
